Will dual channel give a good increase @ upscaled 1440?

Laptop isn't selling and I won't be able to build a computer and get a comparable screen for under 600, so might as well keep it and upgrade it lol.

Only option is memory as that's all it needs. I quite liked playing mad max and doom on upscaled 1440 @ 120hz even if I had to adjust settings to get 40fps and im wondering how much better dual channel will add over generally dual channel being better anyways ?

You aren't playing @120hz if you are only getting 40fps... and I thought the native resolution on a FX505 was 1080P? If so there is little point upscaling to 1440?

+5-10% performance depending on the game

8GB is quite low for modern systems so you'll definitely see some uplift in adding another 8 - nothing drastic, but good for overall system health.

upscaled 1440 @ 120hz

why? Why run the gpu and render 1440p on a 1080p panel.
Over scaleing can make an image look better but not @ 40fps. Not that I would buy if I was to ever upscale an image it would be if the system is producing more FPS than the monitor can display

thanks for replies.

in all fairness between 1080p @ 120hz with high preset and 1440p @ 120hz with normal settings for mad max and even doom i hadnt noticed much difference graphically. i figured since i have the option i would try it out since im not in a position to get a 1440p monitor for desktop.

oh i dont know? the options for res dont allow for less than 120hz unless under 1080p, but even at 1080 i only get 50-60fps, i know 120hz with freesync makes it nice and smooth and quick either way.

i can run up to 4k, just not game at it, but there is a difference beyond 1080.

ill just upgrade the ram anyways then.

indeed, but for 700 quid i paid for it back in 2019 there was nothing else beyond 8gb nor with 120hz/freesync, 2 drives for that money, but its been doing well for the use i had.

FX505DY I think

Yer so like you said 1080p panel, I think he’s confusing upscaling with what the monitor can display.

No matter what res you set the image will only ever be 1080p. Up or over scaling can give a better image that using things like AA (anti aliasing) it can smooth the image but with less of a performance impact then having AA set to max

turn this like AA and FXAA off then turn the res up. To see if the game looks and feels better but no matter what you do the image you see will always be 1080p and no more

But the op question, yes add a second stick of ram 100% if you use the laptop for anything other than Facebook and YouTube..
