Will EVGA do a upgrade program for the 1080TI

Step up will be as normal I guess but I'm going to miss out as I have 3 days to claim right now. So guess I'm screwed. I timed this system terribly, but it was forced on me by a PSU failure.

Going on past experience you'll be waiting some time after release to do a Step-Up to the GTX1080Ti. Stock tends to get reserved for retail and RMAs first, only once supply starts to out weigh demand will you get reasonable lead times for a Step Up to a new model.

Still its worth a shot, just get it setup as soon as its available.

I've just bought an EVGA 1060 and will have 90 days from Monday to process a step up to 1080ti, I'm assuming that'll leave plenty of time? This is the card: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/evga...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-30a-ea.html

Could anyone who has used the step up facility answer a couple of questions please?
  • Will EVGA go by the price I paid for the 1060?
  • Will the cost of the 1080ti be competitive to what I would pay at OCUK?
  • Will the SC model be available or will it only be reference?
  • Will EVGA cover postage?
  • Will the turnaround be OK time wise?
I'm starting to wonder if I should just not register the card with EVGA and sell on MM instead as I won't even be taking the card out the box so will be a good card for someone to pick up "second hand".

Thought you had a 1080? And why would you buy 1060 and nort even take it out the box?

I picked up a EVGA 1080 the other day and am planning on doing the same. I'm sure it will be available within the next 3 months.

I did it once from a GTX260 216 to a GTX285.

String I think they use the price you paid. Don't u have to register the card within 14 days of purchase to be able to use the step up program?

I'm sure it's 90 days, but I could be wrong?

You might as well just sell it on the MM, get what you can for it and then put the cash towards a retail purchase. The odds of you actually getting a GTX1080Ti through Step Up within a reasonable time frame is slim. Once they are out every man and his dog will be putting their GTX1070/1080s into the programe putting the queue times into the weeks if not months. I remember when the GTX980Ti came out I put one of my cards in for a Step Up to it, after a couple of weeks I gave up waiting.

As for your other questions you can find out most of the answers through their Step Up FAQ.

I thought i read you register the card online within 14 days then you have 90 days from original purchase date to apply for step up but i could be wrong.

OK mate, I'll check that out as I can just register it and it covers all options because if I do sell in MM I'll purchase the extended warranty to five years and the second owner can benefit from that. It gives me the option of step up if the second hand price is no good.

Did you have to send your card in during the wait?

No, the first step is the queue. Only once you've made it through the queue, approval (with invoice check), payment, do you then ship your card.

Honestly with all the hassle, the waiting and shipping costs its really not worth it anymore. Only people who purchased something like a GTX1080 in the last month which they can no longer CCR back to the retailer, the value of which has dropped so much which may make Step Up worth considering.

Yes, that is right. You have 90 days from the date of purchase to start a Step-Up, as long as you start the process within those 90 days that is fine. It is good if you are not in a rush, but personally as I like to own shiney new hardware from near release I just don't bother anymore.

Plenty of info here: http://eu.evga.com/support/stepup/

It is in my opinion a bit overly complicated in places but I guess that is more to stop people abusing it and to help reduce the impact on the retail side of their business.

So this is interesting. I'm taking this to mean I could hold the 1060 unopened for up to 90 days, and if I decide to step up all I need to do is purchase the extended warranty. That'll allow me to step up and transfer the warranty extension to the 1080ti. If I decide not to step up, I can sell the card on with remainder of the 3 year warranty less 90 days, and give the buyer the option to purchase the other two years if they want it.

Did you manage to sell your 1080 elsewhere? As there was no interest here in the members market as you was clearly over valuing it, I was tempted to make a fair offer but I felt you would take it the wrong way :p;)

With brand new 1080's being available right now at £425 on offer, second hand 1080 took a huge nose dive unfortunately. Was surprised you went for a 1080 when you did. Very bad timing on that one. I had the feeling that your reasoning that EVGA were selling 1080's at £700 hence 1080 won't drop much in price would not hold true.

That could work, from what I remember you have 90 days to register the card to purchase the extended warranty.

I've still got my 1080, I decided not to sell as like you say the value has sunk a wee bit more than I had anticipated and to be honest it's a cracking card in terms of how it clocks (2Ghz) and the quality of the cooler. I bought it at £30 more than the price it is going for now, so in that respect I genuinely don't have any buyers remorse.

What has prompted the step up talk is a wee bit bizarre. I was reading through the BBC news app when I noticed that Bitcoin has soared in price. I had a paper wallet in the bottom of my sock drawer that had 0.23BTC and it had been lying there for 2.5 years! Back then, the value of it was about £65. Yesterday, it was worth £240 :D

Anyway, I don't want to be transferring my bank details around for Bitcoin trades so I decided to buy the most saleable GPU for the value I was holding at a store that accepts Bitcoin. My initial intention was to sell on straight away, but now I'm pondering whether to hold on to it for a wee while in case I do decide to switch to the 1080ti - hence the step up queries.

I'm going to hold off and see what the benchmarks are like because I want a 30% increase over what I have if I'm to move to the 1080ti. If that's the case, then I'm buying the 1080ti, and two lucky MM surfers will pick up a 1060 & 1080 at very good rates. :p

Finding the Bitcoin has pretty much justified the purchase to me as it was money I never had, but as I say I really want to see benchmarks because if they aren't up to scratch I'll just punt the 1060 and keep the 1080.

I've decided to register it straight away as it won't affect second hand value and it will give me the option of waiting to upgrade if EVGA are lagging a bit with their AIB release. If I'm upgrading, I want the EVGA Superclocked ICX 1080ti and I have no idea when they'll release that so having the 90 day option lets me carry on with my 1080 in the meantime.
