I don't know about growing faster but it would seem good practice to leave the cuttings where they fall. At least with every other cut as macca states.
Leaving the cuttings returns nutrients to the ground and lawn. It will build up a layer of thatch though which should be periodically removed with a scarifier/scarification.
I use the clippings for my compost heap as its a good activator to get a hot pile going. You could then sprinkle this over the lawn as a much better fertilizer, once its fully decomposed.
I collect and dispose of the clippings every time I mow (recently that has been weekly), however I have a young son who practically lives outside and the thought of collecting grass from the lawn is much easier than from my house carpets.
