I very recently purchased a BFG 8800GTX. Some of you probably know about the widespread problem many people have experienced these cards. When under load there is a capacitor or some other component on the card that makes a noise, the higher the fps the more high pitched the buzzing/whining gets. I can hear it very clearly when my case is closed, and its really starting to get on my nerves now....

I've read about people that have had the card RMA'd and received a new one that was fine, or at very least not as loud, but others have received several new cards and the problem persists.

Common or not, this is still a problem/fault and there should be no problems getting an exchange or refund??

The sound is definitely coming from the card, and its definitely not the fan, I have heard mp3's of the sounds from other people with the same problem and it was exactly the same.

I don't know why but I've got into my head that OCuk might argue that because this is so common, it;s just the way the card is and they wont give me a refund. But it's to loud for me just to ignore, and I dont really think it's acceptable for a card costing £400 either.
 
my mates 8800gts under load makes high pitched electrical sound every few seconds for a few seconds, I have to admit once you notice it its very annoying :(

Mine doesn't make a noise just send it back and say it was not fit for purpose. If you are shelling out £250 you want everyhting to be perfect. As a matter of interest what brand is it?
 
I would send it back, asking for a different make if possible and if they send a new one and it makes a noise keep sending it back.
It isn't right and thats it.

I was planning on buying one locally so that I can take it back as many times as required much easier than having to post one back in and wait for another to be sent out... That's why I'm after a refund. Like you said Sel, when it's not right it's not right.

Just out of interest, apart from the odd water cooled card going about all GTX's are the same core and mem speed yeah?
