I was wondering if i will get a decent overclock with pc5300 Crucial ballistix 667mhz memory , i am getting 3gh stable at the moment using 2gb of OCZ pc6400 gold series ram ..

But i fancy getting 3gb of the Crucial ram after hearing good things about it..

Also will the 5300 stuff be ok or will i have to go for 6400

The PC5300 Ballistix will do in excess of 1000mhz, usually quite a bit further. The PC6400 seems to be the exact same stuff.

But you should be able to get in excess of 3.2ghz (400x8) with your E6400 and the OCZ PC6400.

Also the P975x chipset can have issues running memory over ~900mhz.

Thanks for the replies , so do you not think i should buy this ram as i will not get much of a boost performance wise , with my OCZ 6400 stuff i cant seem to get stable past 3gh

Are you running the OCZ at it's recommended voltage and timings (2.1v and 5-5-5-15)? And is it on the 1:1 divider?

The Ballistix won't be any better if you can't max out your current memory.

Will have to check when i get home from work but i know my voltage is at 2.2
Should i run it at makers timings & 2.1 v , if so will i get past 3gh

thanks for your help Cob

Depends what it's running at now.

If the timings are tighter than 5-5-5-15 then you may gain some ground by loosening them to 5-5-5-15.

If it refuses to run at 800mhz at it's recommended ratings then your board may have issues with the actual memory and the Ballistix may solve it.

Or your E6400 may just have reached its limit. A little low, but some chips are worse clockers than others.
