Will I notice much difference in performance?

Hi, I'm specifying a new build, including a Gigabyte Ultra gaming Z270 motherboard, an i7-7700K CPU and G.Skill 16GB 2400 memory.
Will I really see a significant difference in performance between a Nvidia GTX 1060, 1070 and a 1080?
It's just that a 1080 costs more than a telly, and I just feel these prices are ridiculous. Why is the Graphics card so much more than the motherboard, for example? I can't help but feel we are being conned by the graphic board manufacturers.

@nickpike

if you can, take the jump from 1060 to 1070 at 1440p , even still at 1080p if you want to match with a high refresh rate monitor

Gibbo said more G1 1070s have come through and the discount code can be used if that helps tease you over the line

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £488.99

Only £428.99 inc VAT with "GBT1070" discount code!

At present I'm thinking my resolution would be 1080p. Are you referring to 4k? I have to admit I've not given too much thought to the possibility of a new monitor. Any advice would be appreciated.

think most change their monitors every 8 odd years, well i roll with that, current on 1440p 60hz monitor. 1070 copes fine with that, if your after a 4k screen going to need a Ti or around about, 1080 min.

worth looking into monitors if your 1080p is old

seems a lot of gamers like 120hz plus monitors regardless of the resolution for better gameplay experience .

Best advise is buy the best that you can afford, go for the ti if you have the money as it will stand the long game really well. If you can only afford a 1060 though that will be fine for the foreseeable at 1080p.
Another option may be a second hand 980 ti, if you go evga then the warranty will carry over giving 1070ish performance for less money.

If you think of it in terms of equivalent, the graphics card isn't the same as a motherboard. It's more like the motherboard, processor, RAM and PSU in one package. Sadly, this doesn't make graphics cards any cheaper, especially in the current climate, but it can make the prices a little more palatable if you can think of it that way. :)

I could afford flagship GPU, or dual cards. But it's stupid to spend close to £1000 on a GPU. Best to go for sensible option, like £250. It'll last you a few years, and by the time you need to upgrade, that £1000 card will be coming to end of it's life too.

Everything is relative, some see it as value others don't, point still stands buy whatever fits the amount that you want to spend.
In regards to the original question yes there is a difference but there are other factors which determine wether you will notice. At the minute the 1060 would offer the best price/perf ratio in my opinion.

this is correct if you are at 1080p or please point me to a #250 4k card :P
