... a number plate with a Union Jack on the side? When I had my car MOTed last year, the guy mentioned it might be a cause for failure this year, but was fine last year.

Anyone know please? :)

FAIL!

Many places will still pass it though, you could report them and win them some points on their testing license.

That wouldn't be a very nice thing to do after they've just granted you some leniency and passed your car when they shouldn't have!

It depends on the garage. My sister has a mis-spaced numberplate but it's a legal font with no logo and she has to change her plate to a legal one to pass her MOT. My friend has a plate with an illegal font and is mis-spaced and passes everytime.

Wrong. It is permitted, provided there are no other logos.

I'm sitting next to someone armed with an MOT testers card, where's yours?

It's supposed to be a Euro flag, there are exceptions, but the Union Flag isn't one.

I don't need one, because I have access to the official guidelines on number plates direct from the government body who controls them.

In another thread there was a comical warning on the danger of being a little to forceful about your level of knowledge. I think this thread might serve as another reminder ;)

National flags and identifiers
Motorists in England, Scotland and Wales have the option to display the Union Flag, Cross of St George, Cross of St Andrew (also known as the Saltire) or Red Dragon of Wales

I've made it bold for you ;)

Just think how less embarrasing this might have been had you not been so aggresive about your mate with the MOT card ;) Could you let us know which Garage he tests at so we can avoid it? Last thing we want is getting cars MOT'd by somebody who doesn't know the rules

It's Mike right? Look, I don't care that much. Something like 4 people in this thread will ever meet me outside of this forum.

Edit:
Also; you let me off with a friendly comical warning before. Am I in trouble now? Get a life.

One of my cars had a (small) Scotland flag on one side of the reg plate and it was never mentioned.

Another had the six letters on the rear plate all squashed together into one word and that was never mentioned either.

Probably depends on the garage.

Well my plates are mis-spaced (LL YY LLL) and have the volvo logo at the side. When my uncle had the car he had to put his old plates back on.

The place i took it to didn't even mention it.

So whilst it shouldn't i'd say it depends entirely on the mood of the tester, the weather and if he got laid the night before.

Pop your eyeballs back in and clear the phlegm from your screen.

My post was in regards to more than just the flag.

Calm down.

technically speaking the MOT tester has nothing to do with it

the rules are clearly laid out in legislation. There is no grey, just black or white with the law, as it says "anything other than this isnt permitted" basically.
