I'm finally thinking of upgrading my CPU RAM and motherboard from my [email protected], P5qe and 4gigs of DDR2 to an i7 4770k and 8gb of DDR3 and suitable board.

Now at the moment my setup seems fine but my 6970 is begging to struggle at 1920x1200 on max in some new games and I plan on doing a rather large amount of video encoding hence the i7 over i5 and the fact I don't upgrade often...

Will I notice a difference in anything other than encoding and perhaps a few FPS once I upgrade my GPU? I.e is it a big enough jump from what I already have?

You will notice a hige difference if you upgrade your CPU and jump onto an SSD, especially on the encoding.

For game performace, you might wanna upgrade that GPU too.. but when you do, it will be capped by the CPU; so bid farewell to your old setup and upgrade it all :)

You won't regret it.
