Will i see a big improvement?

Is it actually fact that the ATi is better? I must admit i am more of an Nvidia man, but if the ATi is a lot better perhaps its worth a look? Although maybe this will create a massive debate on what is better...hopefully not

Not really, performance wise, GTX460 1GB and 6850 are on par with each other both stock vs stock and overclocked vs overclocked and prices are both around £150. Besides different offerings on features (Eyefinity, Physx, CUDA etc), the benefit of 6850 is lower power consumption and only require 1xPCI-E 6 pin connector, whereas the GTX460 1GB would require 2xPCI-E 6 pin. But the GTX460 1GB Gigabyte and MSI Cyclone comes with better custom cooler than most 6850, and a free download voucher for the full game of HAWX 2). Also if you keep an eye out for deals, it's not impossible to pick up a MSI GTX460 HAWK 1GB for around £150. Also if going GTX460 1GB, you can keep your 8800GT as dedicated Physx card (ATI fans would tell you Physx is pointless, but fact is you already got 8800GT so might as well)...you COULD use the 8800GT as Physx with a AMD/ATI main card, but not via normal methods and would require some unique driver that was leaked in the pass.

The way I see it, people with Crossfire only board should go for 6850; people with SLI only board should go for the GTX460 1GB, people who got board that don't do or do both Crossfire and SLI just choose whichever one they prefer. For example, I have just helped a friend to pick parts for building a 1156 build, which the MSI motherboard I chosen would only support Crossfire but not SLI, so I help him bought a Gigabyte 6850 (best custom cooler) instead of a GTX460 1GB.
