Stupid question: Currently have a MSI HD 7850 Twin Frozr III OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express graphics card and want to replace it with a RTX 2070 Super or RADEON RX 5700 XT (both PCI-Express).

As they are both PCI-Express will this just be a quick swap out and replacement of drivers or is there more to it than just being a PCI-Express? I have a beefy PSU so that side should be fine.

I realise that is a bit of a step up but not in a rush to upgrade and my current card is on its last legs.

Thanks!

Should be good if your PSU is up to the job and your case is big enough. Also what CPU do you have. That my bottleneck your new card.
Oh no doubt, but I'm having textures tearing everywhere at the minute so I think the GPU needs replacing. In March I'll be looking to upgrade the rest (motherboard, CPU, RAM, etc).

So your current card uses 1x6-pin power connector.

Both a 2070 Super or a 5700XT uses 1x6-pin and 1x8-pin, so you need to make sure you have that extra 8 pin available.

Otherwise you should be good to go.
