I purchased an ASRock Z270 Pro4 a while back. This has three M.2 Slots. In the manual, one (Key E type) is dedicated for Wifi. The other two are indicated to be for SSDs.
I've now gotten a hold of an intel tri-band 12860 WiGig adapter which has M.2 form factor, but with Key A. This doesn't fit into the Key-E Wifi designated slot, but the notches seem to suggest it may fit into one of the slots that is meant for M.2/NGFF SSDs.
Also the manual states that these slots will take Type2230 cards - this is the form factor of the 12860.
Will the motherboard recognise it, and can I safely plug this into the SSD designated slots? Is it just like plugging into a PCI-Express port, where the only difference is the available bandwidth/number of lanes available? Or could this damage the board?
Thanks!
