Will memory prices recover...

Can't see why memory prices would go back up. Also, with DDR3 memory now coming onto the market, they're only going one way.

It's not that straight forward, the price crashes are massively reducing profit margins for the manufacturers. So they are likely going to have a sharp reduction in production to concentrate on higher profit areas, which will result in less DDRII memory on the market, causing an increase in price.

They come down for the summer (weak PC sales) then go back up, peaking at about Christmas. Last year was an odd one, because both Intel and AMD had new kit out that both used DDR2, so the demand for DDR2 outstripped supply and that leveraged the prices VERY high. The manufacturers now have excess capacity again, so RAM prices are pretty low right now. They will go back up a bit, but I doubt we'll see a doubling like we did for last Christmas. The absolute bottom of the market will be sometime in July or August I reckon. Just in time for Intel to cut the prices on the Core2Duos :D

I reckon its bottoming out about now and prices should remain this low for the next 6-8 weeks then creep up a bit.
I think it's just starting to creep up now as it goes, I timed my purchase exactly right. Got 2 x http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-058-GL
@ £45.99 + VAT each from a competitor, then the next day they're out of stock and the price is up to £56.99 + VAT.

Happy as Larry! ;)

Hi there

As I've said previously memory prices have nothing to do with season in general. Memory prices go up and down depending on supply and demand or when the memory cartels decide they want to make more profit.

Over the last two weeks memory prices have been rising gradually. Our famour GeIL 2GB kit has risen by $20 over the last couple of weeks and prices are still increasing across the board on all memory. At the moment its unknown if this is a spike or not but its a rather large and long winded one if it is.

We still have old stock on many memory lines so have not had to put our prices up too much yet but if the prices keep increasing then obviously memory will increase in price everywhere.

I have 2 of 2x 1GB Crucial PC5300C5 kit on order with a competitor. The price per kit has just come down (in the last 3 days) from £ 36.55 ex VAT per kit to £ 35.01 ex VAT per kit so it seems their buy price is still getting lower.
