Will my 12 year old HX750 live on?

I've been running this PSU for ~12 years and currently have a 6700k system with a 3080FE. I now have a 5950X on the way and I'm worried the PSU might be an issue.

6700k TDP: 91w
5950X TDP: 105w

I can't say I have had any issues with it in my current setup. The 3080FE is undervolted anyway because it's ridiculously loud under load and the 6700k is only overclocked by 200Mhz.

I'll be running the 5950 at stock-ish speed (3600 XMP) so I don't expect it to be pulling huge power. Also, I assume I won't need to connect the 4 pin EATX12V_2 as well as the 8 pin. Is that just for high voltage OCing as I don't think I'll have that extra connector.

On top of the main components I have an AIO, 2x M.2 and 2x HDD and 5 fans in total (corsair ML). I am also removing an Asus D2X which uses external power (floppy connector).

So, what do we reckon, will I get away with it? Availability right now it's pretty dire, if I upgrade GPU I'll likely grab an ATX 3.0 PSU with it but not for a good 6-12 months. Anything I buy now will be ATX 2.0 and overpriced (IMO) for an outdated spec unless I can find a decent used deal.

Are you using the 5950X only in gaming, or are you doing workstation-ey stuff like rendering?
A little bit of everything, however I do a bit of 3D rendering and I'm hoping to do more of that, hence not going for a 5800X3D. Most still renders are GPU based these days but you still need a decent CPU for physics and animation.

Don't see why not? Quality psu, 3080 undervolt sub-200W? Good to go I reckon.
They were reviewed at 90% efficiency at the time so yeah, it's within spec, although I need to see what the 3080 is pulling under load. I guess there's a risk, but I should expect it'll just trip-out rather than take out any components.

I'll give it a go, test without any critical data drives attached then see where I stand. I just wanted to sense check and avoid disappointment.

My Corsair HX520 never worked correctly from the day I got it but working out that it was the PSU was extremely difficult because the problem would only occur when returning from sleep. There were a few references on the web about some of these HX power supplies having a faulty power good signal which would be why I was experiencing the problem only on occasions. Most of the time my system(s), I used it in several with the same problem, would return from standby correctly but on occasion they would lock up my system. By the time that I had drawn suspicions what was causing it Corsair would not replace it due to an expired warranty which was fairly short. The problem is identifying the problem because it is not easy to test for without specialist equipment.

I won't buy any more Corsair hardware now after my experiences with their poor quality PSU's and service. If I consider all the hassle that PSU gave me and the time it used up replacing the damn thing was the least they should have done IMO. Never again! There are too many other alternatives to waste any more money on Corsair.

Ok cool man so only a couple things to raise.

1) plenty of people have had Corsair PSUs and had zero issues (myself included) and EVERY manufacturer will have the odd model that isn’t great.

You are free to spend your money how you see fit so all the best.

2) that’s not what OP asked and his HX750 watt psu is fine.

OP I can’t see you having any issues with any AM4 CPU. They aren’t wattage hogs.

Definitely wait for the PCI 3.0 PSU's I managed to get one they are hitting the shelves I only upgraded as mine it's past the 7 year warranty I got one with Japanese caps and 10 year guarantee and I expect it to last that long through a number of gfx card and system updates. I would expect 1000w+ to be in stock at overclockers soon although the PSU you have just now should be absolutely fine.

I'm still using my HX850 from circa 2011.

I reckon it'll go a long while yet.

99% if it does fail it won't damage any of your other components anyway, I say crack on, see you in another 10 years.

When you get quality PSUs they should typically last a very long time. You could pre-emptively replace it if you feel the need to just in case it does kick the bucket so that you don't have to deal with not having a PC due to the PSU being dead.

I was just thinking this
I have a Cosair ax760i and its been on everyday for over 12h. since 2013
I'm looking to replace it now tho don't want nothing going bang !
Don't capacitors expand over the years? Think I'll go seasonic this time had one years ago

did corasir make a better psu than ax series? around same wattage

Here you go mate https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ here is a link to a PSU tier list, remember to check the numbers for the conditions below the tiers. Some of them don't have numbers which means you don't have to worry about anything.

thank you !
No problem just another quick thing from what I can tell there are like 4 PSU manufacturers (Seasonic, CWT, FSP and Superflower) and all of them have varying levels of PSUs from very good to very bad so it is important to check individual PSU reviews to make sure the PSU you are wanting to buy is good. All the other brands you see are manufacturered by one of the 4 that I mentioned in brackets and just rebranded, my Corsair RMx for instance is a rebranded CWT. I think one of the other top models the EVGA Supernova is a rebranded Seasonic.

yeah thanks for that Shingy
sometimes changes in revisons changes things too ! had that before with motherboards
I like the seasonic's and corsair hx750 , warranty support is major deal just want something better than I got !

They age, but from what I can see, your PSU hardly has any :o (maybe 5, it is stuffed with polymers and the electrolytic are all high quality). If it had been released today, I think the warranty would be 10+ years.

Edit: the warranty is 10 years :D
