Will my 360 Elite controller talk with vista?

I have a black Elite wireless 360 controller I am trying to use on my PC. I have the software installed from microsoft and I have the pad connected to the PC using the USB charge kit.

It wont connect? Is it something I am doing?

So the USB cable wont do? Windows sees it in Device manager?

I aint buying the receiver. If it wont work then it wont work.. Should do given its an all microsoft brand line up.
The wired one works fine I take it?
