Will my 6950 fit ?

Hey, So I gave my friend my old 6950 but not sure if he can fit it into his computer, his motherboard is a Gigabyte, GA-MA785GMT-UD2H

He says it physically won't fit when he tries to put it where his old 5770 was, anything I can tell him ? He doesn't stay near me otherwise I would go over and have a look :)

The HD 6950 will fit in the blue PCI-E slot on the motherboard.

It may not fit, however, if he only has a small case and the card is too long.

If he had a single slot HD 5770 and something in the first PCI slot then it wont fit either.

Or even if he has something in the second PCI slot if yours is a triple slot card.

Maybe his SATA cables are in the way as they aren't at 90 degrees to the motherboard.

I'm sure there are other possibilities.

Get him to take a picture and post it here.

Has he fitted the power cables to the graphics card?

The HD 5770 would have needed one 6 pin connector (I think) and the HD 6950 usually two 6 pin connectors or a 6 pin and an 8 pin depending on the model.

You're very good Surveyor, I'm on the phone to him now and he says he just put the 1 cable from the old 5770 in the 6950 hehe.
Thanks :)

If it's a cheap unbranded PSU then it likely won't produce anywhere near 900W.

The single PCI-E power connector suggests it's not up to much (unless it's modular and your friend has some more cables somewhere).

The good news is that he'll only need around 300W for a reasonable system with a single HD 6950.

Get the adapter and give it a go.

If it doesn't work he may need a better quality PSU.

Hey, so the adaptor came I and went to try fit it however it seems that it doesn't fit into the 6950. the 6950 power slot needs the following shapes to fit (I don't know what they're called but it's what they look like )

Square - House - House
House - House - Square

But that adapter has
Square - House - house
House- Square - Square

"Square" should fit into "house".

Have you tried giving the adapter a bit of a wiggle as you're trying to fit it?

Post a close up picture of the end of the adapter if you need us to take a look at it.

The cables on one row of connectors should be yellow and the other row black if it helps with the orientation.

Should there be 4 house shapes and 2 squares ? or 3 of each on the adapter, I have 3 of each and it feels like I will need to reshape it by brute force pushing it in

Sorry, I'm fibbing.

House will fit into square but not square into house.

Can you post a picture of the end of the adapter so we can see exactly what we're talking about?

Sorry about this image, using my Iphone and it's very hard to get it in focus so close up!

The row beside the clip has 2 squares ( 2 houses are needed on the 6950), the one in the middle is the problem, the corners of the middle one have faded a little from me trying to force it in.

Just so I've got it right the connectors are as below:

If so the middle square in the top row isn't going to fit in the house on the graphics card.
