Hello all,

My sister managed to successfully tip half a glass of water over my keyboard :( - Now the arrow keys and num keys don't work at all, the Mac beeps when I use the return key, the caps key doesn't work and the A key thinks its the caps key!!!

It's not one of the new ones either, but I've only had it since I got the Pro (July)

I love the feel of it and not to fond of the new keyboards and I don't want to pay through the nose for an original one off eBay.

Before I take it apart tonight and attempt to fix it myself, will my Applecare cover it? I took out a 3yr plan with the pro, not sure if it covered keyboard as well, so does anyone know off the top of their heads?

Many Thanks,

Jacob.

Take the keyboard out, and stick it in the airing cupboard over night. Should sort it.

I dumped a cup of coffee on my lappy kb, detached it and dumped it in the shower and rinsed it through. 24 hours in the airing cupboard - fixed with every key working and no sticking.

Nice idea, but removing the MBP keyboard is a tricky business.

You could try if you want (instructions over http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/MacBook-Pro/Upper-Case/85/4/Page-5/Upper-Case ), but it's a lot of messing around just to remove the keyboard, that's not guaranteed to work afterwards.

I believe Applecare covers parts and labour, but I'm not sure it covers accidental damage. Best to ring them up and ask over the phone.

Ah this was on a "you can replace everything" Dell C610, I think it's 8 screws and 2 ribbon cables.

Oh yeah, ask the question from a purely hypothetical point when you call Applecare just in case :D

If Applecare can't help, you might be able to get it under contents insurance - but I bet
your life they'll try and say it's "personal effects" and you don't have that kind of cover :(
