Will my budget laptop play Doom3? *updated problem*

Hello there! I've looked at the minimal requirements already, but I think playing with the minimal spec is like playing a broken game.

As per title - my spec is:

GeForce 8400M GS
2.00 Gig Ram
Intel Core Duo T7250 2.00 GHz

Thanks :)

you should be fine tbh.

I played Doom 3 on an opty 146, 2Gb RAM and an x800.
Getting the actual thing to install/run properly I tried a few times and could get it working on 64bit vista :(

Played it on my old laptop which has a Pentium-M and a ATI Mobile Radeon slightly slower than the old ATI9600 and it was playable tho the fps was low.

8400M GS is pushing it tbh due to the low SP count and poor memory bandwidth.

I sucessfully played Doom 3 on an Athlon 1200 with 512mb ram and a Geforce 3 TI thingy. It ran surprisingly well at low res. Your laptop should run it lovely.

If you look here someone benched it on an 'identical' specification laptop, averaged 37fps in 1280x800 High Quality: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4223

Pretty poor obviously but I'd imagine if you lower the settings it would give a boost to FPS, also you may see a minimal improvement from more up to date drivers than used there.

Bear in mind that was with a 64MB variant of the card, if yours has more onboard memory I'd expect a fair performance improvement.

Having a bit of a problem.

I have installed a demo, but seemingly it will not run - I keep getting this message:

Any ideas?

Thanks

Doom3 demo does not work in vista, however the full game has a patch which allows full play.

Carefull only full retail versions work in vista apprently, download versions such as from steam etc, are limited to xp.

Thanks again :)
