Hold up alright with a new C2D system (E6300, DS3, 2GB GeIL PC5400 most likely).

I don't play games, at all.

So I'm hoping this card will be alright to keep until next year when Halo 2 PC comes out and won't have an impact on the new computers performance because the card is very bad. Can anyone confirm this, I don't want to buy a new card (probably a 7900 when Halo 2 Vista comes out) and not use it at all.

Thanks and sorry for all the threads. >_<

TBH, from my readings recently on budget PCI-E cards, the 6600s are far and away not the worst. Whilst not up to the standards of more recent cards, they'll still play almost anything with high settings at 1024x768 and sometimes 1280x1024 acceptably, add to the fact they cost about £40 second hand, you could do far worse these days :D

If you're not gaming, it'll undoubtedly be fine - whats it going to fail in? :D
Hell, not gaming, you could get away with an X300se or a FX5200

As said above this will be fine. :)

Even if you want to have the odd game of CSS this should hold up. ;)

Great, thanks for the confirmation lads. :)

Now I'm just hoping my Antec TruePower 430 (came w/ Sonata II) stays intact until then. It's been making funny noises recently. o.O

I don't feel confident about replacing a PSU either yet >_< (this computer was my first build, with lots of help from Dad :p )

PSUs are really easy. Take side of case, unplug cables. Unscrew from back of case, toss liberally at closest annoying sibling etc then place the new one in, make sure the voltage is set correct on the back, screw it in place, then just connect all the plugs up again the same as they were with the previous psu. Job done. Sounds longer than it really is, just unplug, disconnect, install new one, reconnect same wires :)

That easy eh?

Thanks for the help.

lol if you dont play games, then in what respect do you expect the gfx card to hold back the performance of the system? and in whap apps? without knowing it is impossible to say!

That's why I asked, because I wasn't sure if it would hold back any performance or not. :p

But thanks anyway lads, you've been a big help as always.

I've just replaced my Leadtek 6600GT and it was playing every game I'd thrown at it so far perfectly well on 1280x1024. Only started to notice it lacking in the fact that I could only manage the lowest settings on NFS:Carbon.

My 6600 is now in my Ubuntu machine, running Beryl very smoooothly :)
