Will my current modem or router work with Up to 8Mb BT Broadband?

Can I use my existing modem with Up to 8Mb broadband? Or should I upgrade to a router?
My existing Router is Netgear DG834GT.

BT company said all BT Broadband products comply with the ADSL standard ITU-T G.992.1 (G.DMT), so any equipment that I want to use with BT Broadband should also comply with this specification. But I dont know is my router comply with the specification.
