ok, so im looking at making some blue ray discs for the kids of some of their favourite shows.
thing is, the BR-RW is in my HTPC as i use it to play BR discs, but im worried its not going to be man enough to encode very quickly. so was thinking, would i be better using my i5 machine to make an iso then copy it to the htpc to burn, or will the htpc be ok to do the whole job?

i5 machine :
i5 2500k @ 4.6GHz
Z68-EXTREME4
8GB Team Elite RAM
GTX560 2GB

HTPC :
Pentium G620
H61M-US3
4GB Zepplin RAM
LG BH10LS38

cheers in advance

Your I5 machine would be much quicker, the G620 would be able todo it but it would depends if you want it done quickly.

would prefer it to be done asap, but if its make a 25GB disc, it will take a while to transfer the 25GB iso from computer to computer, so would the speed be a lot different?
the other thing i have heard is, if the encoding takes an age, the quality can suffer due to errors as its not processing quick enough of something, true?

When I transfer my Bluray MKV files other ethernet (1gb network) I think its around 10mins ~ only did it the other day and cant remember!! :(

Not herd anything regards the last part.

ok thanks, i could whack an ethernet lead between them as they sit next to eachother lol

would it be safer to make the iso on the i5 machines hard drive, or select a shared folder on the HTPC to make the iso on? (i guess i mean will it be quicker to make the iso and transfer, or just make the iso on the HTPC drive)

I would try the latter, I only transfer mine in one hit to the server as I use Homeplugs between my PC and my server and this is quite slow, so I just run a long ethernet lead to my router in the front room.

right, just need to find the right software now then, looks like TMPGEnc Authoring is the way to go, although the burner came with power2go, dunno if thats any good
