hi

what do people think ( rig in sig ) . its pci-e 1.0a . my personel feelings are that it will be fine . ill let you know when i get it so people with older rigs like mine can see whether its ok or not .

cheers

I dont have first hand answer, but i asked similar question few days ago.

general impression is that any c2d if clocked up around 3.4-6 should do fine.

Now for another matter, i had mobo and cpu same as yours, bad axe was a reliable & straight forward board, but was not clocking too good, well at least for me

hi

i have a 32 bit os would 4 gig be a waste . i also looked at some tests with 2 gig vs 4 gig and there wasn't much difference . i could upgrade to win 7 if needed

ive had my e6600 up to 3.4 stable so hopefully that will be enough

cheers

No, just get it. Just say you ended up with 3.25gb. look at it as though you system/OS would use 1gb so you have 1gb to play with. You will be increasing that 1 gb to 2.25gb. A good increase

It will be fine and You will be very happy with it ;)

Don't worry too much about extra memory, Just make sure Your system is clean and lean (and not vista) ;)

It depends on the game and res. Based on some recents tests on CPU usage I've done I'd say you may be bottlenecked in some high end CPU intensive games such as crysis, GTA 4 etc. But you will always have a bottleneck somewhere, go for it!

WinXP will only give 2gb per app (without dodgy hack). Which is a major problem for the game I currently play. That said, most recent tests have decided single player games like dx9 Crysis dont really need more than 2gb. Some mmos are more demanding than Crysis in the total number of different player equipment number and textures unplanned appearing on screen at once.

As for the bottle neck on PCIe1.0, reviews at the time the Nvidia 280 suggested it was a minor, but not critical issue (5% or so). Slightly more so for the ATI 4870x2, but then only 10% ish? (trying to remember - go have a look on tomshardware from a year back). I did wonder about those tests at the time, whether they bothered to account in any way for games preloading textures. I dont like the games that these sites use for testing.

I ran a 4850 on an 8 lane pcie1.0 for a while. Things were fine if the game preloaded - as all single players are designed to do - but suffered from poor micro stutter otherwise. Watch out for it.

[edit] Looks like there wont be much difference. Only hits 5% in a couple of cases.

I have to say, I think the e6600 will probably hold it back a bit. You'll still get a good upgrade and will enjoy it.

i was going to go i5 but figure with this card the system will last me a bit longer . iwill let you know when i benchmark it and you guys can tell me if its bottlenecked by the pci-e 1.0 slot . if it looks like i need more ram ill get it but i think this rigs still got some life in it yet.

cheers

hi

my 5850 has arrived just doing some benchmarks with rig in sig before i change cards

Got a Q6600 myself and to be honest though you won't get as super high fps as say an i7 system you won't notice the difference in the real world as theres still no game that really taxes this chip too hard I don't think especially when overclocked.

Crysis and Warhead are still way too much for it at high resolutions and quality settings

hi

well i had to overclock the cpu to get any real difference

with the cpu@stock and 5850 i scored 11900 in 06
[email protected] i scored 15600
[email protected] 8800gts@610 core 1750 mem 1450 shaders i scored 11600

in lost planet with [email protected]
8800gts 640@610 core 1750 mem 1450 shaders i scored 24 fps

with 5850@stock [email protected] i scored 53 fps

into the pink

8800gts@stock cpu@stock i scored 7400
5850@stock [email protected] i scored 20400

tried to o/clock core and mem on the 5850 and guess what the scores /fps went down
any ideas

cheers

the case is a lian li pc 7 and it just fits without removing the hard drive tray. its 1/2 inch longer than my 8800gts 640. hope that helps

cheers

Is that XP ?, Just the numbers below total score, SM2, SM3,CPU was all You need, It is scores for the different graphics Shader model 2 for example but tweaking and watching them will help You

You really need to put the resolution up for the test so You don't get so bottlenecked by the cpu speed
