Hi,

My current build is around 3 years old or so (OcUK build):

Power Supply: Corsair GS 600w PSU
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K 3.40GHz @ approx. 4.20GHz Ivybridge CPU
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LX2 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Cooler: Alpenfohn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler
RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz
Graphics Card: OcUK GeForce Nvidia GTX 670 2048MB GDDR5

Was thinking of just upgrading to a GTX 970 for now and then upgrade other components down the line?

Will I see good results? Will the other hardware be ok for now?

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply! Now to find one at a good price!

Thanks again! I just figure the GPU is the 'easiest' thing to change for a novice?

Yes, just be careful of dimensions and cooling. What case are you using? I ask because you have a reference blower on your 670, so maybe you need a reference 970 too?

I have always preferred nvidia cards myself. Had a couple of AMD / ATI ones and they felt cheap and flimsy by comparison. Always felt nvidia cards had more consistent performance too. Personal preference though.

would work fine and have good performance upgrade too with 970.
although i would consider 390 (nitro) instead, slightly better perfs, double the memory, hardware support of async compute, just seem more future proof than 970, beside freesync monitor are pretty cheap if you ever wanna change monitor, if you dont have vendor preference, the 390 offers more value present and future for the same price.

For a second I thought you were the OP replying. You'd have to be a serious fanboy to go for the weaker card, especially one that has half the memory and no Async Support. You must never have had an AMD card to claim they are cheap and flimsy.

I had a MSI GTX 970 Gaming that was very good but it is a little steep in price currently. it ran near silent and ran very cool. The Zotac isn't badly priced either but I don't know much about it but personally, I would go with someone who has a quick RMA service if you ever need it like MSI, Gigabyte, EVGA and now Asus.

@fs123 - NVidia do support Async and some people want to run all the GameWorks effects and that doesn't require being a fanboy, just someone who like GFX. Please do your homework before posting wrong information.

Great price on that and if the OP doesn't mind missing out on some of the GameWorks effects, I would also recommend that.

Rather have a Nano than GW effects - its seriously a fast little card for the price. Its twice as quick as my GTX960 4GB,but sadly cannot justify it even at that price and the fact I have a mini-ITX rig too!! :(
