here's my system

i5-2500k (not OCd)
8GB ram
HD 7850
SSD drive to install the game to.

I really wanted to install a demo but obviously the games creators have not made a demo for it as the demo itself would need the entire game engine which is soe 40GB odd.

A bit cheeky - I considered just downloading from unscrupulous sources purely for testing perposes but then AV flagged up a trojan. I would want the online play anyway so would have quickly uninstalled and bought it.

1) is there another game with equivalent graphics demands that has demos that I can install and test with?

2) why doesn't gta produce a graphics testing presentation of some sort to gauge if the game will work?? I bet if retailers allowed monmey back guarantees for games the games makers would release testing editions.

You can also get refunds from steam if you happen to buy it and it doesn't run to your satisfaction - have a read about terms and conditions though. Think you have to apply for refund before you surpass a certain amount of play time. 2 hours rings a bell.

Different type of demanding. Crysis is an old game, yet from memory doesn't support multithreaded cpu's, or rather it supports them but is not optimised to use all cores.

I would say GTA is more demanding, if you crank up certain settings, especially from a vram perspective, but it also scales very well I believe.

you will be fine, cant max the game, but you can have a medium to high setting with 30fps, or low medium for 60 fps, GTA 5 is demanding on the CPU also, not just GPU, but you should be fine, if you are not too picky with settings, just test out untill you find the sweet spot for your rig

thanks for the feedback. I will pull the trigger - but not just now. I got deadlines to meet if I buy the game now I know Im staying til 4pm in the morning and waking up at 8 and making my way through the day like a zombie.

You'll be fine, I run it with no problems albeit mainly at low and a few high settings with an i7 870, 8Gb RAM and SLI 1.5Gb 580's @ 5760x1080 in Surround over three monitors, looks fantastic at this resolution and runs far better than it has any right to!

I run the game on a 7950, not sure how much faster the card is over a 7850, but on mine, its runs very nicely on high settings so I'd expect you'll be fine with most things set to medium maybe with a few highs thrown in :)
