Will my Thermalright True 120 keep a 8086K cool enough

Hi guys, I am planning to use my old true 120 cooler with a 8086K and I will be overclocking too. Will the cooler keep the cpu cool enough, or shall I buy a different cooler and if so what one? Thanks
 
It will work fine on stock CPU .. as long as it's new enough to have LGA115x mount .. all LGA115x are the same spacing. ;)

Because the tests/reviews from over 10 years ago showed that the Thermalright ULTRA-120 Extreme Black Edition | TRUE Black 120 was the best air cooler available on the market :eek:
And because I am lucky to still own one :cool:

I would love to know how this cooler stacks up to modern day coolers.

All 6x heatpipe TRUE model are definitely better than Arctic, Cooler Master, and H7 Quad Lumi. Similar to Mugen 5, but probably not quite as good Dark Rock 4 Pro and NH-D15. That is assuming you have a good fan on your TRUE.

This. The TRUE was and still remains a fantastic cooler. It'll keep pace with the latest high end single tower coolers of similar design.

I'd say only the Noctua and Be quiet would conclusively win over a TRUE. I've actually made it a hobby to buy them when they come up on an auction site as they get sold for 20ish quid or less as most people only have the older mounts like AM2 or 775 and i've got about 11 115x Thermalright universal mounts which work with them and also a few of the X mounts from previous. Wonderful heatsinks. Last setup i did with one was a 9900K at stock speed with MCE enabled (well over 200W TDP) and still keeps it under 95C full prime95 load and about 81C Cinebench R20 with a Noctua fan.
 
There are more than just Noctua (D15 / U14S / U12A) and be quiet! (Dark Rock Pro / Pro 4) that are better, but few if any are better in it's 132x169.5x63.4mm size. Noctua NH-U12A 126x58x158mm is little smaller, but shorter. Another old Thermalright beast is Ultima 90, another 6x 6mm heatpipe 115x139x55mm. similar performance is smaller package. Still using one myself. ;)

Im using my old 120 True with my [email protected] (on all cores), temps could be better but there not shocking. Im in the high 60's low 70s when stressed with "intel burntest"
