As title, i'm wondering if we will get a free upgrade?

I know that when i had a laptop with xp and vista being released very soon after i got a free upgrade, will apple follow?

Obviously nobody knows for sure but is there any apple history of doing this sort of thing.

I reckon Steve Jobs has got the timing right on the release of the new laptops so that the free upgrade is just beyond the reasonable time constraints so they won't offer it.
Also, the OS is apparently a kind of voluntary version so it won't be a general release. it'll be more of a 'if you reckon you want it...here it is' sort of thing.

You are probably right. Snow Leopard won't be for a while yet, end of 2009 would be my guess. It is tipped to be quite low in new features, apparently a little shakeup but nothing too impressive. Time will tell though.

yeah...seems to be what it is.
Stripping out a lot of bundled apps and processes.
A stripped down, lean, mean, OS. Low RAM, lots of CPU idle, etc.

The new crucial if you're working a mac pro for video/ audio/ cpu intensive stuff...just what the doc ordered.
If you're running a mac for general day-to-day; then nothing to get overly excited about IMO.

Ah right, i was assuming SL would be coming at macworld 09 :)

Another thing, they are speeding the OS up and removing unwanted bits, sureley this should be an update and not a whole OS?

Just an excuse to make more money. And you never know there may be new features. However, judging by it's name, I think it will only be a general speed increase etc.

I'll be buying a mac pro at around that time (whenever they are updated with i7 xeons), hopefully get the upgrade disk as I did with my MBP.

Very nice! Have they been confirmed to be coming with i7 Xeons?

Sounds about right, that's what, 18 months or so after Leopard?

Sounds a about right.
