What is the likelyhood that nvidia will drop thier prices of the 8800's for the release of the r600 to stay competative with ATi?

is it likely that there be any price reduction at all?

Or is it only likely in the event that the r600 smashes the 8800's in benchmarks just like C2D did to AMD64?

I think it'll be interesting to see how the price war goes if it goes the same way as the AMD vs Intel thing as the core 2's came out.

Nvidia allready plan to bring out cheaper products in the 8 series range. I think thats their strategy unless or until ATi manages to compete.

Could turn out the r600 will be faster but hampered by drivers or poor failure rates.

Can't see it anytime soon IMO especially here in ripoff britain.
I'd imagine seeing a card at the same level an 8800 gts 320mb can achieve
at around the £100 is a long way off maybe even december.

They supposedly have an 8800Ultra waiting to compete with the R600. I think it will mainly depend upon what price the R600 is launched with, and how many 8800Ultra's they can actually produce. Personally I don't see the 8800 dropping a great deal until nvidia get a die shrink out.

Depends on how fast the R600 actaully is.
Yup

If its only marginally faster then ATI are screwed.
Depends if the R600 is priced competively tbh, if it's only marginally faster then I'd imagine/hope it'll only cost marginally more,

regardless of how fast the 8800U/8900 is, ATI would at least be competing at the top end again, in which case I can't see how

they could be screwed.
