Over the past 2 days I've noticed a crackle on my phone whenever the person i'm calling speaks/dialtone, it's only slight but very annoying now i've noticed it. I've turned my speaker volume down to the lowest setting which helped but it's still there. The problem is present regardless of who i'm calling/signal strength.

I brought the phone from o2 in Bristol but I'm currently in Devon. I'm going to go to the nearest o2 store tomorrow in the hope that they'll swap it for me as the phone will only be 6 days old. Incidently the phone in question is the SE W890, it was brought sim free with their simplicity tariff (actually works out cheaper over an 18month period + added benefit of being able to change/cancel contract at 30 days notice) and is insured with o2 as well.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any experience of getting a phone exchanged directly? I don't want the hassle of sending the phone off for weeks to be inspected/half assed repair that won't make a difference. I'd also rather not have to put a claim on the insurance in to get a replacement for what is obviously a quality control issue.

Any tips/stories of previous experiences welcomed!

Why is it always this way... I think I have my answer from the o2 site

How do I return or exchange my phone?

If you are not entirely satisfied with your purchase, you may return it to us within 14 days from the date of receipt to obtain a full refund or exchange. If you have used the SIM card, you will still have to pay for the pro-rated line rental amount and any charges outside of your allocated allowance.

So from that i think it should be possible to just say i'm not happy with that handset and then they would offer me an exchange. Although I bet it all depends on the mood you happen to catch the store boy in when asking (very politely!!!) for an exchange :)

Seems a bit late now :) I just thought I'd see if anyone had any direct experience themselves...

but whats the worst they can say.

"Whilst we were inspecting your phone the hospital called to let you know that all your friends and family were just killed in a bizare accident involving a herd of rabid hamsters, also we sent that self portrait pic into the Guiness world record people and you officially have the worlds smallest ****".

Well they replaced it with minimal hassle. They initially made a bit of a fuss because when they tested it (in the noisy shop) they were unable to hear anything wrong with it. So I showed them the part in their t&c where it says you can return it within 14days for exchange if i'm not entirely satisfied and they swapped it over for me.

I'm really happy with the new one, all round call quality is much improved! One weird thing, the battery isn't going to 100%, it's been on 99% for about 5 hours now. I'm sure the last one went to 100%...
