Will OCUK be getting anymore S939 X2 chips??

must have been a cack 3800 (or mines a very good one) currently got mine at 3ghz at 1.375volts. 40idle havent tried load but 1mb PI went to 51c. paid £65 for mine off a mate
Wow! Nice clock!

Looks like you got a good one there! :)

Yeah think mine was just a bit cack! :p

thanks. 8mb superPI just took 5min 27sec. (took 5min 45 on 2.8ghz opteron) MBM5 reports highest temps 55c.

Im tempted to try for higher

I'm quite tempted to just splash 200 quid and get an Opteron 185. Sadly ain't no Opetron compariosons on Toms Hardware, I take it this best would decimate all in its path?

depends what it clocks to

Just won a 4400 X2 on ebay, a *tad* (£40ish) more expensive than as mentioned earlier in this thread, but I guess the prices of these will be going up for a while, they are like £200+ new and drying up fast, so I'm happy :D

wheee

Nice! You won't regret it!!! :)

let us all know what you think when you have it installed and running!

Retail prices for S939 X2s are a bit of a joke, with a major price premium over the AM2 variants. Personally I'd steer clear and either look secondhand or move to a C2D setup.

I'm still running a 3000+ venice and had a quick look around recently just to see if there was a bargain upgrade path, but no such luck. I thought maybe with C2D available at under £100 some of the slower X2s might be available in the £70 range but no joy.

Think its simply a case of (mostly) supply & demand. Doubt if e-tailers such as OcUK are trying to make a killing. Rather they must be getting them very expensively.

As far as I know, AMD have stopped complete production of Socket 939 chips & its been quite awhile now.

what chip and whats it clocked at?

X2 4400 @ 2.6 ghz.

It's blatantly got more room in there but I cba messing around with it. I haven't found anything that makes it grind yet.

I recently aquired an X4400+ for £120 and it definitely runs very well, but for some reason it refuses to run stable at 1T command rate which is sort of annoying as I'm pretty sure using 2T is knocking off 5-3% performance.

I also can't seem to get past 2.5ghz. It runs perfectly stable at 250x10 (using the 333mhz memory divider) at 1.365 volts but if I try to run it at 250x11 (2.75ghz) it simply refuses to boot.

specs:

Asus A8N-E
Geil 2GB (2x1GB) DDR400 (cas 3.0)

Any ideas?

Simply put your sweet spot lies between 2.5 and 2.6 ghz. This is the case with most 4400's.

Remember that having the extra 1/2 meg cache on each core equates to around an extra 200 mhz of performance.

CACK 3800 OMFG ROFL  :p :D . You've not got a clue about the X2 3800 have you  . gt_junkie's CPU is performing beautifully as is yours. I've got a good stepping and both of your chips are running at lower volts than I would need.

Damn the brand new one I got from OCUK last July was 1.55v @ 2.6Ghz and it took me a few hours to get it stable at that hehe.

I have a high'ish end X2 3800 and you both have high end X2 CPU's. Be proud.

OK so I've got the 4400 in now, looked good, runs 10C lower than my 4000+ @ stock.

So then the downer came, I ran 3dmark06 and it did visibly worse in the CPU tests than the 4000+, this surely isn't right? As according to tomshardware there should be a 1000 or so point gain..

I was getting aroung 6300 marks before and I got a lowly 5787 this time.

Which surely is lowly for:

4400+ X2
8800GTS 640MB
2GB Geil Value DDR400

Thoughts??

EDIT- meh it's xp sp1 not finding the second core arf ;o

Installed Vista 64 bit....

3dmark06 score: 7603

:D ownage Shuttle!
Great stuff! That's a really good score!

I got about that with my X2 @ 2.5 and a slightly clocked GX2 on the ASUS A8N32 Deluxe!

Plus, if you can overclock the card and processor any more (i know it's a shuttle so temps and the PSU may be pushed) then you could get another couple of thousand on that!

My top result since i got my Opty is 9331 using my 165 @ 2.88 and the GX2 at 600/830 on a DFI SLi DR. :)

Enjoy your new toy!

Well seeing as the X2's temps are pretty low I think I'll see how far I can clock it at stock volts, just out of interest of course ;)

As for the 8800 It's already at 550Mhz and under load it hits ~83C, so I'm not in a rush to start pushing it. However this is just the gfx card as my system temps are actually v. nice now with everything @ stock.
