If they get to 4080 prices then they won't sell as simple as that, people will just buy 4080s so AMD will end up sinking their ship and helping Nvidia sell their already overpriced 4080s even at FE prices they are way over priced. So wish them luck selling them then and only the diehard AMD fans will buy them on release and batches that end up at Nvidia pricing and after that they will sit on shelves as is happening with 40 series at the current pricing.

It is not always Nv or AMD that force high prices. There has been a lot of situations in the past few years where retailers would push prices up and make higher margins. This is what I fear will happen with the 7900xtx, if it is comparable in performance to the 4080 then the retailers will price it accordingly because Nv have created a price anchor. After the initial tiny batch at MSRP they will not be available at that price for well over 6 months till the global recession hits full force.

Exactly it's all artificial stock limiting to make the prices go up after the release, people need to wake up to the fake msrps game and how after the day of release the few at msrp never seen till people stop buying and then come back down to msrp or less. They are basically playing all the FOMO crowd every release now.

It's all a con, and they were increasing prices on 4090s as people had them in their baskets. So FOMO'ers and Lemmings who HAVE to have their card on day 1 because of E-PEEN neccesity, now are getting scalped again as they check out, with retailers knowing a panicked, rushed Lemming is just going to pay the extra £100 anyway.

As disgraceful as this practice is, I have little sympathy for day 1 Lemmings because they're rewarding companies for implementing increasingly anti-consumer practices.
