will phenom 9950 support ddr3

ive been on a few other forums on the web and they have mixed responses saying that no am2+ with support ddr3 and then others that say it does support ddr3,
I have a motherboard here that has an am2+ slot with ddr3 ram slots but is there any point in buying any and instead just using ddr2 in my old motherboard?
 
The Phenom 9950 has both ddr2 and ddr3 memory controllers so your good to go with DDR3. Im not sure on what sort of gains you will get but am 100% on the support for DDR3 with the phonem.

Edit: or not according to this fact sheet. This key architectural feature list for the phenom also states just ddr2 controller so you will need a phenom 2 if you want to use ddr3 in an am2+ board.

What are you trying to get out of it?... A more responsive system? … Better fps in games?

The phenom 2 has both ddr2 and ddr3 controllers, it will also go in an am2+ board. That means you could put a phenom 2 in your current board with your current ram to squeeze a little more life out of it.

How much ram you got and what speed?
 
i only have 4gb of ram atm, clocked but icant remember what too, and yeah, i just want a bit better performance out of games and to speed up the system abit
 
What graphics card do you have? Also what resolution are you playing at?

Edit: Might be good just to list your whole system as my next question will probably be what motherboard do you have.

just a budget card atm,im in the middle of saving for odd bits, its a 9500gt, an awfull card that makes me die inside a little bit each time i play a game but it can handle Dawn of war 2 at max and civ 5 on medium, the res depends for some games i prefer 1280 x 1024 and for films and tv shows i prefer 1360 x 786
 
Then without a doubt most performance is going to come from a new graphics card in your system. Somthing like a second hand 8800gt for the £30 mark will destroy pretty much all games at that resolution.

Bet if you have a budget then your best bet is a video card upgrade i would say.
 
ive bought a new graphics card and some ram, to try and sort out a blue screen i had, i tried to get it sorted by the manufacturor cyberpower, however luke from cyber power is quite adament that its a user error and is being useless, you have been much more help that he has and i really do appreciate it
