Will physical/big box games have a "revival"?

:D

With Vinyl on an ever increasing retro/nostalgia revival and CD sales increasing, could we see physical/DVD gaming having such a turn around, maybe in "big boxes", not the pathetic jewel cases.

It makes zero sense, but you never know.

The pull of physical media to collect/handle/look at seems to be "in" at the moment.

Nope!

There's a small market for collectors and maybe super fans of certain brands. And that's cool and fair enough.

In general though... I think the days of boxes, cases, media etc are gone for the majority of us (who has a disk drive nowadays?!)

One of my most vivid memories of gaming was buying one of the Command & Conquer games in it's massive box and getting really excited reading about all the new units in the novel included in the box in the car on the way home.
Kids these days don't know they're born /grumpyoldman

I think they already tried to revive it with steelbooks, at least on consoles. No idea how successful that was or wasn't but as the only ones I have are freebies that came with the latest Pokémon games on Switch I imagine they didn't really turn out to be big money makers.

As for PC games, the lack of physical media is a a stumbling block for anything 'collector'. I'm somewhat of a hoarder/collector myself (insert Willem Dafoe meme here) and even I can't see the point in getting sent something in the post along with my digital purchase that'll likely sit on a shelf gathering dust.
