Are the prices likely to drop in the near future for the 8800's?

Also are there going to be lower spec models of the 8 series such as 8600 ? (if so when and how much?)

Reason I am asking is I am thinking about upgrading very soon but half my budget will go on a GC if i go for an 8800. (id prefer to be on dx10 so 7 series i dont really wanna go into).

thx

Of course price will drop, but don't expect it to drop more than £20-£30 until R600 is released from ATI, which will be end of march most likely althought possibly later.....

There will be more 8000 series cards released around that time also, including mainstream DX10 versions, not sure if the cheapest of cheap ones will be Dx10 though yet...

So you should be able to pick up a DX10 card 8000 equivalent of the 7600 for example for less than £200. (prolly fair bit less)

Obviously it won't be anywhere near as fast as an 8800GTS\GTX.

you might as well get a 7 series, or ATi equivilent, at the moment. Until Vista (and hence dx10) is more widespread there isn't much advantage for nvidia or ATi to flood the market with dx10 cards that perform essential the same as dx9 cards.

Buy a dx9 card now, then upgrade when the sub £200 8 series/ati equivilent comes out.

Or if you have 350-500 quid, get a 8 series.
