Will removing the battery from the MB reset the OC?

I initially had 2 HDDs set up in RAID 0. I now am just going to install a single large HDD. It was suggested to reset the BIOS I just take the mother board battery out for 2 mins. Would this also reset the overclock?

If so can someone please tell me what I need to do in the BIOS to return the RAID setting back to a single drive? Please be aware I need an idiot guide as I am an idiot!

Thanks

Yes it will.

If the overclock is saved as a user profile, then you can reload from the CMOS.

Find the SATA controller in the BIOS and it may have these options (AHCI/IDE/RAID) yours should be saying RAID.

Select AHCI, insert the install disk and reinstall on the single large HDD.

Maybe disconnect the other drives before this to ensure all files are installed on the one HDD.

Cheers. I have nothing to copy over to the HDD. It is just going to be storage. Some one mentioned changing to IDE..... Does me copying nothing to the disk make a difference to your suggestion. All my program's are on a ssd.

So lets be crystal clear.

• You have a SSD running Windows and programs?
• You had/have two HDD's used for storage (D: drive)?
• You now want to remove the RAID setup for a single larger HDD for storage?

What motherboard do you have?

Your board has these SATA ports,

Intel® Z77 chipset :
2 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), gray
4 x SATA 3Gb/s port(s), blue
Support Raid 0, 1, 5, 10
Supports Intel® Smart Response Technology, Intel® Rapid Start Technology, Intel® Smart Connect Technology *5
ASMedia® PCIe SATA controller : *6
2 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), navy blue

Your SSD should be connected to the Grey SATAIII ports as they are the best ones.

Which ports are the two HD's currently connected to?

Now you ask. This was a pre built machine. I'm not at home till Sunday to look. Does it make a difference? What do you suggest I do in either case - Sata 2 and 3?

Your help is much appreciated.

Change the SATA controller the HDD's are connect to from RAID to AHCI.

Pull out the two HDDs, replace with a single HDD, format it in Disk management as it will need assigning to appear in "my computer"

Hope your SSD is affected.

Ok. FYI the 2 HDDs have already been removed. So you think there may be a possibility the ssd could be affected? Would disconnecting it be an idea?

You will want the SSD connected to be able to boot into windows as thats where its installed to.

Just try it, you can always revert settings.

Try entering your mobo raid BIOS first and check if it supports JBOD in raid mode.
If the option is there then there is no need to change the raid setting just configure your big drive as JBOD in the raid BIOS.

Ps. Just a thought is JBOD as good as AHCI?

RAID mode also enables AHCI so there should be no difference but RAID mode slows down the boot times by a few seconds, as it loads the RAID bios compared to just AHCI but since your system is already using it I doubt your going to noticed it.

On my way home now contemplating the job ahead. Keen to keep my Pc as fast as possible if I just try and go for AHCI not via RAID and have to reinstall windows and programs ie reformat the ssd, will this affect the OC?

Went into BIOS, selected AHCI, changed the HDD cable from the SATA 2 to SATA 3 port, connected HDD, formated and hey presto, works fine. Is there such a thing as a SATA2 or 3 cable or are they all the same?

Many thanks to all who helped me sort this issue. God knows how an amateur like me would survive without your knowledge - I shall be asking plenty more questions and hope to one day be in a position to offer advice to others!
