I'm having to rma my ddr2 6400 corsair memory due to one stick being corrupt. My spec is in my sig and I’m thinking of upgrading to either Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel or OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 Dual Channel - which ever is considered the better?

My main question is will having DDR2 8500 dual memory that demands more voltage (minimum of 2.1) cause my system temperature to increase etc? Or is is just the memory that will run warmer?

My patriots need 2.2 to run at 6400 so 2.1 for 8500 should be ok.

Not looked at stats but I seem to remember the kingston ones had a lower latency (was it 5-5-5-15) where as the OCZ were 5-6-6-18 (might be 15).

Not 100% sure but I would say common sense dictates that if one part gets hotter then the whole PC will get hotter with it, just how I see it anyway.

My bad, i didn't really word my post correctly.

What i really meant was: would higher memory voltages increase the temps of the motherboard components such as the north bridge etc not just the overall ambient temps.

Thanks for the reply BeeP.

Thanks Mike, that's the confirmation i needed - case temps are easily remedied with my case fans and my cpu is very chilled.

As said, it will be barely noticeable, when I was running my D9GMH at 2.2v with a fan over the them, my case temps only went up a tiny tiny amount...

Great.

Then it's just deciding which ddr2 8500 memory to get in its place - the kingston or the ocz gold that's on special. I just want the most motherboard-slutty memory which doesn't require a mug of tea and a blanket to get it working.

Thanks again.
