Will stitching a number of .dng files be treated as one

The files are .raf and so I'll have to convert to dng for photoshop cc2015. I wondered whether stitching them first and then recovering some foreground detail would be easier as opposed to dealing with each image separately? I have previously only shot .jpgs but am led to believe I'll get better results shooting and using raw files for this. Camera is a Fuji XT2.

Well depending on the dynamic range of the scene, if its not too complicated then getting the individual images as close to the look you want with the raw import settings is the way to go. Copy these raw settings over the other files so that they all match and then stitch.

From there you can fine tune the full pano as you see fit.

Personally I'd stitch and then fix as it removes all risk of ending up with differing fixes across panes. Assuming that the camera was in manual when the pano was taken.

Lightroom will stitch RAWs to a lossless TIFF file and attempt to balance all the images out in the process. The boundary warp features is also very good to fill in any gaps in the perspective / crop. The TIFF can then be edited non destructively and exported when / if needed to a lossless format.
