Will the 1700 stock cooler handle a modest overclock?

You might find out on Tuesday, I think thats when the reviews start, failing that you will probably have to wait until release. Could always try a standard one, then order a better one if you find it isnt good enough.

We don't even know how well Ryzen OC's yet, so wait for reviews. I doubt the stock one will be capable of much though, so if you really want to push these CPU's, aftermarket will be a must, or custom loop for the extreme.

Waiting for the bracket to be in stock for my CM 212 Evo. However the included one looks good enough for stock speeds.

There's not much heatsink there, so doubt it's up to much OC.

The stock cooler everyone was excited about was the "Wraith Max" and it's ended up MIA because all the 1700X/1800X preorders are without cooler

I don't think that's the cooler that comes with the 1700, I think that's the spire, I thought the 1700 has the wraith, but I could be wrong

Just checked, you could be right as on the product information it does indeed state wraith spiro and not max

I'm sure there will be people that will let you know.

95W rated cooler and the 1700 is 65W, so there is some room there. At least until AM4 coolers get released.
