will the 2200g work with the Msi A320M Pro-VH Plus?

nobody responded in my motherboard thread about this board vs the gaming version, so im just going to go ahead with the purchase of that Pro-VH on tuesday/wednesday thats on gum and is only like 2 or so weeks old and while i had my sights set on the 1200 to run with my gt 710 then later a 1030 i am now thinking the 2200g might be the better option and retire my 710 as a spare, but i know the APU chips havent always been that clean sailing.


the reason i am choosing this board is its £40 with everything included and it kicks starts my ryzen route, plus im not interested in overclocking anymore or anything specific or fancy, hell i dont even need to replace my old system anytime soon, i just feel like it lol.

It should be fine, the only potential problem i foresee is BIOS compatibility, its a 300 series board, so Ryzen Gen 1, that in its self is fine as Ryzen Gen 1 boards are compatible with Ryzen Gen 2, which is what the 2200G is, but it needs the right BIOS, if it doesn't have the right BIOS when you get it you will need to upgrade the BIOS yourself.

AMD will, or at least i think they still do... provide a BIOS upgrade kit that you will have to send back when you're done with it.

Its just a bit of a chew-on and really the continuing compatibility on boards from CPU generation to CPU generation is for your convenience if you're just upgrading the CPU, the idea being you just upgrade the BIOS with you old CPU and then drop in the new one.

Without issue, probably not.

If you're buying a new Motherboard and Ryzen 2 its best to look for a 400 series montherboard, those run Gen 2 Ryzen out of the box.

i hate msi website they dont have easy to find option for cpu support.

the board will be used, the seller said 2 weeks old, so i dont know if they used it, will ask them actually and i dont have to go with 2nd gen ryzen, the 1200 would do me fine, my 860k + 710 is doing me just fine, can play certain demanding games on low @ 768 well enough, so really the whole ryzen thing is to have updated stuff while improving a bit and as a 1030 will improve my current gaming, i figured if i go ryzen then the 2200g would be a good starter with the vega graphics being just under 1030 performance.


im not buying all at once unless i see a good deal, i just figured it be better than buying a 1030 for my current system and spend that money better elsewhere.


so i think then if i get this board next week i will stick to 1st gen as intended, hell might even push a 1400 if its not a wasted chip on an A board? only £20-30 more than a 1200 im currently seeing.

The 1200 is a 4 core 4 thread CPU, the 1400 is a 4 core with SMT, so 8 threads, in games with a GT 1030 you're not going to see a difference but if you do some Video editing or just unpacking Zip files there is a significant performance difference between the 1200 and 1400.

Whatever you end up doing any Ryzen CPU from the bottom up like the 1200 is A LOT better than the 860K.

ha no doubt the ryzen be better than my 860k, something wrong if it wasnt ha, just at the time of seeing the 1200 i had noticed the 1400 are now just over the £100 mark which makes it seem more worthwhile, i am starting to use my computer more again and will try play some games when i can now im paying for origin access again lol, but like always i wont need anything too strong of a performer and i am looking at the 1050 LP card or just a 1050 in general for again not much more than a 1030 price, but aside from deciding on ram i am still trying to make a cheap as possible upgraded system.

i would prefer the APU i guess just to better my current system while keeping costs down, but i do wonder how long before i want better graphic performance which would probably make the APU pointless lol.

True, that's the thing with APU's, you can't upgrade the GPU portion.

Get the 1400, double the compute threads will see you better longevity if you decide to upgrade the GPU again in a year or so, the 1400 is good for anything upto a GTX 1060.
 
just got back from the seller, they told me they had the ryzen 5 2600 installed and had updated the bios, so it looks like id be good to go whichever cpu i choose.
