I need a little help if someone does'nt mind, I'm gonna be ordering my self a 8800gtx (BFG), the only thing that is worrying me is as follows, I have an intel badaxe motherboard that has 3 pci-express slots, in the 3'rd pci-express slot (the bottom one) I am running a geforce 6200 that powers my 3'rd and fourth screen, now will that slow my primery pci-express slot down to 8x or will it still run at 16x as the 8800gtx needs a 16x pci-express slot to run ?

i dont think it *needs* a 16x slot to run at all. All current PCI-E cards can run in 8x slots too.

On the 8800 page on this site it states that it MUST have a 16 lane PCI express slot just to work at all.

Hmmm... methinks somebody is trying to stop SLI working on Crossfire boards. Or maybe is does actually need the bandwidth that not even a 7950GX2 can use...?

Yup as said above, its a 16x slot only, but that board has a 16x slot, the others are 8x and 4x or something aren't they, or am i totally wrong.

Well I got a 8800gtx, I uninstalled all the nvidia drivers from my system using driver cleaner, I then installed the latested nvidia drivers from guru3d 97.02 (the currunt latest ones on nvidia's website, 93.71 do not work with the 8800gtx), but these drivers would not recognize my 6200, so in the end what I had to do was install the standed latested drivers from nvidia's website, once these where installed I then installed the newer 97.02 drivers on top, this seemed to work, I could power 2 screens off the 8800gtx and another screen off the 6200,

the problem I'm having now is that sometimes when I open a direct 3d game up it pauses very noticeably once every 1 secound, to stop this from happening I have to press 'control alt delete' and shut the game down, load up any openGL game, run it, exit, then direct 3d games work fine  , I've tried a full format and reinstall and still the same problem, now if I disable one of the monitors in display propertys either the secoundry 8800gtx one or the 6200 one I never have this problem,

surely you should be able you run the 8800gtx side by side a lower spec card for multidisplay, I used to run my old 7800gtx with my 6200 with no problems what so ever,

any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

sold for it £536 on the bay ready for quad core so have brought a 6300 just to play around on, tbh tho this 6300 is performing much better than expected so I may just keep it, it's only running at 2.4 at the mo but even at that speed compared to my conroe extreme @ 3.2 in games there really is'nt a great deal of difference, once I've sorted my mutlidisplay problem I'll concentrait on pushing to the 6300 to 3gig.
