Hello everyone i started a new job last month and on my first pay slip i was on emergency tax as i had not recieved my p45 from my last job. I finally got it through yesterday and sure enough the tax code on there is different to the one on my pay slip so i know for sure im getting taxed too much. I told the finance dept about it when i first got paid and they wanted to know what the tax code on my p45 was but as i didnt have it i was unable to tell them. When i got home last night it was there in the post so now i have the code but i can't get hold of anyone from the finance dept. Normally i would just walk accross to the finance building and chat to them in there but i can't today as im working on a different site. I tried calling them, calling the switchboard but no one wants to pick up or put me through.

Will the finance dept notice i am being over taxed and investigate it (when i told them) and will they sort it out or do i have to wait to speak to them again. Tomorrow is pay day so i doubt if i even can get hold of them it will do anything this month.

Thanks :D

No. They won't do anything until you give them your P45 or they get a new tax code from HMRC. On the other hand, if you have gone straight from one job to another, its likely there will be little or no difference between the amount of tax you pay on the emergency code and your actual tax code. (unless you are hovering around the HR band/have any random allowances/benefits - and providing it is the emergency code they put you on and not a basic rate code....did you fill in a P46?)

I didnt do a p46 no and its strange as i was getting taxed a lot more than the other staff as we all do the same hours and we are all on the same wage?
