As title going to order this board today from ocuk am worried it wont recognize the intel pentium k straight out of the box ? will I be able to at least boot in to bios to flash so it supports the cpu ?

Intel Pentium G3258 3.20GHz 3MB 350 MHz / 1100 MHz Haswell Refresh 22nm C0 53W 100 BIOS F5

from gigabytes site hmm looks like i've dug myself a hole with the G3258 most of the z97 boards seem to require a bios update to recognize the cpu ? or will it boot up and just requires the bios update to be fully functional ?

It may well run but needs the update to work properly. Z97 and H97 are meant to support Haswell Refresh out of the box.

Back in the Athlon XP days, I had a processor recognised as something totally different, until I updated the BIOS.

I've got the Z87-D3HP and the cpu support doesn't mention a BIOS lower than version F4. When I updated to F7 recently, I discovered I was on BIOS F2.

it might let you access the bios, idk until you try

if it doesn't gigabyte will flash the bios for you if you can rma the board but im 99% sure it will work

Stupid this still goes on wish retailers sold motherboards with the latest bios already updated even if they charge a small fee for the service.

All Z97 boards should support the G3258 out of the box. It was only Z87 boards like mine that required a bios flash to enable support for this chip and the Devils canyon refresh such as the 4790k.

Yea they support it but need a bios update to overclock it.

Sorted, I was just worried wouldn't even post.

Thanks for letting us know that it worked out of the box and only needed the BIOS update for OCing.

I've got a friend coming over this weekend with a box of parts, including a Gigabyte Z97X-SLI board and 4690K.

I've also got a Pentium-K and the same board for my own rebuild, just so we have the same mobo/BIOS. From the Gigabyte website, it looks like we'll both be in the same situatiuon as you.

I am on it now rev 1.0 board but it came with the F5 bios already on it.
g2358 booted fine with 2 sticks ram in.
