Hi,
I have:
PNY 8800gt 256mb
AMD Athlon X2 5000+ undervolted (1.35v to 1.125v)
2 sticks of DDR2-5300
Asus M3A (also known as M3A-770)
Pioneer DVR-1120 IDE
Western Digital WD1600AAJS 160gb Sata 300
Abit AirPace wireless card
7 USB devices (max)
4 case fans

I currently have an X-Power GTX Lite 580, great stable PSU, but a bit on the noisy side (I'm heading for a 17db PC, this is 25db). I was tempted to change the fan but... parents, you see
The Xtreme Outervision PSU calculator says I can cope fine with 270w, however this seems incredibly low for an 8800gt? Will this PSU do? I might stretch for the 500w, but I'm really on a budget here. Thanks.

A 400W PSU would be fine for that spec - it's never going to draw more than about 200W. Personally I prefer the Corsair but the OCZ should be OK.

but changing the fan on the PSU u have would also be a good idea:D

Only if you know what you're doing. The components in a PSU can store electricity even when it's unplugged, so it can be quite dangerous to open one up.
