Will the Windows 7 version affect performance?

I f i were to install windows 7 starter/basic as opposed to professional/ultimate, would it run more smoothly because there are less background services/features etc?

The system is going to be on 24/7 doing various things from hosting to folding, so the OS features do not really matter to me. I just want to know if the version choise will affect how much CPU usage or RAM usage at idle etc.

quick answers are fine, one worders, whatever... i am litterally at the install screen wondering which version i want

after a few quick google searches i opted to install home basic 32bit.
(pentium d 3ghz, 1gb 533mhz ddr2, integrated gfx)

I'd have gone for Pro personally. It's easier to turn services off than have to upgrade to a beefier version.

*edit* of course i forgot where i had got it from, and then remembered AFTER it blew up

it was in my spares waiting to be tested... Well i did test it, and it was running fine, cool, quiet and stable, then 2 hours later... "whats that smell?" *opens cupboard* "****!"

i have had a PC running in that cupboard for 2 months solid once, its not that cramped in there and there is plenty of air. It was running at pretty low temps. About 6 - 7*C hotter than outside it, but still cool enough. It is very quiet in there as well... And i have to sleep in this room... The door is only closed at night time usually.

Got the rig working again with a 250W PSU and it is sold and gone forever.
The server will now be an e8200 w 4gb DDR3 and a passively cooled gcard.

Nobody would be able to use W7 HB since it's limited to developing nations and it wouldn't activate over here.

But what if i didnt need to activate it?

Anyways, that computer is long gone. Got a newer system to use now and it is getting professional put on it.
