Will there be a 'New Mac' in Jan?

If we complain enough I'm sure Apple will change it in the next software update :D

Actually, 185 is the average number of days between updates. It's been about 100 days since the last update - as you say since the last was over 230 it's not unlikely to be another 4 to 5 months at least before an update.

I'm not sure whether you're saying that 185 days sounds like too much or too few - but bear in mind that it does include every time they've changed a minor specification or dropped the prices - and 185 is just under 6 months, which seems like a perfectly reasonable time for a refresh on a computer system to me.

As caged says, it's installed by default on Vista and XP Media Centre. If your friends don't have either then they install it in a couple of minutes if they are that jealous. Front Row is not anything new or even impressive though that's what I was saying. The fact the Micro$oft offering is even better says a lot too!

The next intel chip architecture isn't due until late 2008, if they're updating the iMac then it will be a speed bump at most (I think) :)

Also, say they'll release one (a new model) in September then they'll probably save the bumps until June to space them out a bit.
 
Well there's plenty of room for a reasonably dramatic improvement without a new chip architecture - they could change the design, the screen, improve the graphics card (lots of room for improvement), add features like a TV card, or of course the obvious things like including more RAM by default. I for one would be far more interested in these sorts of improvements than in a slightly better processor.
 
I agree, but given the past trends they won't change the design until a completely new architecture.. However, as you pointed out they could bump the graphics card.

Given the choice, I'd buy now. Waiting for an upgrade is all well an good but when it doesn't materialize then its highly annoying and, like I said before, it'll just make the time to the next upgrade even smaller.
