How Well Will This Run Stalker?

Tempted to buy STALKER for when i order this machine, anyone any idea of how it will run? Im guessing the GFX card wont be able to handle it maxxed out but if i drop some settings will it run smooth?

Looks good to me. There are a few improvements I'd make if it were my build though. I'd get the cheapest SATA optical drive available because IDE cables suck and I might stretch to a hard disk with a 16 MiB cache like the Seagate 7200.10.

its going to be mainly used for the odd game. mostly football manager, i dont tend to play too many 3d games as ive got an xbox 360.

Also, im not planning on overclocking, but will i need Thermal Paste?
 
The Intel stock heatsink/fan that comes with the processor will have thermal paste pre-applied. If you aren't overclocking this will be fine.

The PSU you mentioned is a decent make, so I would think it should be fine. Modular PSU's are great for a tidy case, which helps airflow. If you have any doubts over the PSU you could maybe look at this from Corsair .

It's about twenty quid more, but you'll have no issues whatsoever with it. Plenty of power and very good quality.
 
hmm for £22 more it makes sense to go for that PSU i think.

That's cool, it's a nice spec. If you ever did upgrade the graphics card, it'd be a monster.
 
yeah think eventually I will go for a better GFX card but the 8600 should tide me over until some more funds come.

Trick question. nothing runs S.T.A.L.K.E.R. well! :p

If you want to play that game you'll want a more powerful GPU. It's rather intense even at the lowest settings.
 
thanks Billy, thats what i thought. I may try the demo out (if there is one :?) when i finally build this and see what it runs like. Its definately a game i want to play though eventually.
