Will this be a bottleneck?

Hey everyone. Ive got a GTX 280 on the way and im just wondering if my 6300 @ 2.9 Ghz is upto the job?

Ive also got an E6550 @ 2.33Ghz for xmas for my dad. Is it worth me swapping that over, clocking that and giving my dad my 6300 or do you think my current CPU will be upto the task?

Cheers guys!

I'd definitely do that if I was you.

Something wolfie or quad might unleash a bit more from your 280 but it kind of depends on the res you're playing at and probably wouldn't be be worth the outlay.

My 6300 is topped out at 2.9Ghz it seems. It wont go any higher I dont THINK...Havent tried in a while tbh but it seems really stable at 2.9Ghz. May give it another crack later on...

As long as the 6300 wont restrict the 280 much ill be happy. Swapping the CPU over isnt worth the aggro just for a bit of a performance increase...

i would swap the e6550 for the e6300 for sure.

You want every bit of CPU performance you can get to keep up with that 280. Twice the cache and the nice clocking attributes of the G0 stepping....how could you say no?

Hmm might be worth swapping it acctually...as the CPU is B-Grade I would like to know if its in working order also...

I just feel abit bad about just giving my dad all the old crap from my pc for xmas :p

*well a 6300 @ 1.8Ghz and 8800 512 GTS isnt really THAT old*

He just wants to play BF2 and im pretty sure he will be able to do that :p

That and 2 gig of ram should see him fine, I used to run bf2 maxed on an old intel 640 with an ati x850pe:) That cpu and gpu beat what I used hands down.
