Also is that gfx card ok or can i get something just as good for that money?

If you can improve it for the same money which is £394 inc case please let me know asap...i need to order this baby tomoz

thanks in advance

cheers

Just gonna have a hunt around. :)

Antec SLK3800BUK Black Quiet Midi Tower Case - 400W SmartPower PSU (CA-048-AN) is £3 more, instock and is a better PSU, adds the power for dual core and any future upgrades he may want, WORTH IT. (Its the price of a lunch)

The graphics card is a bit low end depending on if he wants to game or not?

good man :)

thanks mate you are a diamond....

i need a gfx card for video editing.....basically will copy video footage from the camcorder to pc and then use virtual dub to cut bits out etc.....can u suggest a gfx card for the same money i chose?

also the ram do u think its ok? i am stuck between that and the geil 2 x 512mb

It will not be used for overclocking or games....

Is the mobo and hdd OK?? or would u change it?

Basically I have £350 - £400 can u beat that spec lol.....the cheaper the better....thanks....

More than enough power on the GPU, you need as much ram as possible so that is fine. 160gb should be enough space, but more MAY be needed later if they do a lot of work.

How does the camcorder connect to the PC?

The case I mentioned will be better, as you have more headroom on the PSU to add a 2nd, 3rd and 4th hard drive as the movie projects eat the space, on 350w you are treading the safe limit.

Can not beat the spec, may go for a lower end card like a 6200 if they are cheaper, anything over a GF4 will be adequate for video editing.

Hard drive and ram are the most used components for video editing, with the cpu playing a big part when rendering. Graphics card comes after these.

I will have a look on OcUK at graphics cards, I don't keep up to date with the pricing on them.

XFX GeForce 6200 Turbo Cache 256MB DDR TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (PVT44PQA) (GX-040-XF) £32.

Rubbish for games, would do nicely if you need to cut the budget, your card listed is the better option though, but if you need to save money then drop it to that, other than that your Spec is what I would get for the money.

How does the camcorder connect to the PC?
I believe either svideo or firewire........my chosen mobo has firewire ports right??

Cheers I will go with your case :) thanks mate

what do you think about my choice of RAM?? bit confused there....

lets say if I put 45mins of video footage from the camcorder onto the hdd....how much space am I looking at?

I do not know, all I remember is it eats up the GB's fast, abotu 3gb a film when I was doing a comedy video, did it on a 40gb drive and was fine.

You have a DVD re-writer so should be fine.

The board has no firewire acording to Asus's site. :(

With the ram, the more you can get at any speed the better. 1gb should do nicely.

hey just found this:

Asus A8N-VM CSM Micro ATX (Socket 939) PCI Express Motherboard (MB-119-AS)

its got on board nvidia 6250 gpu with tv out :-)

then I can ditch my initial gpu altogether :)

then i can double check the camcorder attachment and if firewire is required buy a card :)

what do you reckon?

so here it is again:

Antec SLK3800BUK Black Quiet Midi Tower Case - 400W SmartPower PSU (CA-048-AN) 50
Pioneer DVR-111DBK 16 x 16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter - (Black) OEM (CD-038-PO) 26.32
Samsung SpinPoint P SP1634N 160GB ATA-133 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-009-SA) 51
Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop v2.1 - OEM (KB-052-MS) 23.44
Asus A8N-VM CSM Micro ATX (Socket 939) PCI Express Motherboard (MB-119-AS) 59
Crucial 1GB DDR PC3200 CAS3 (CT12864Z40B) (MY-030-CR) 61.00
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA3200BPBOX) (CP-11 110

Just took £40 off the original spec with a better case.....:)

What dya reckon????

If firewire is required then add another £10.....

will it all fit in the case???

All will fit, got some money left over, the 250gb Samsung drive is only £10 more aswell, so depending on money that is also a option.

The 6250 should do fine for video editing. Always the possibility of a upgrade later as needs develop.

If the camera needs a TV card instead of firewire, you have enough money to budget one in aswell.

All in all a spec that to me seems ideal for the purpose.

excellent......

hopefully firewire is all i need...why would you think it may need a tv card?

im doing this for a charity (volunteering you see) hence the budget.....

thanks for your help mate :)

Charity work, good on you!

TV cards are needed if the camera is a older one that would just plug into your TV (like mine).

I am covering all eventualities and they all seem to be able to be budgeted in your spec. :)

well thats good news in a way cuz someone just donated a brand new panasonic digicam nvg015 something or other so hopefully firewire is all that is needed....

Charity work, good on you!
cheers mate........you made it all come together too.....so thanks for that :)

Will place the order tomoz :)

Hopefully they will pay an extra £10 for next day delivery :) (saturday) so we can have it up and running asap :)
