i currently have a ms-7021 atx mainboard. i am going to uprage soon but dont know if its compatible. i will use the amd phenom II X3 tricore black eddition 2.8 ghz processor and a XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphics card. thanks

If that is the MSI Part No: MS-7021 motherboard then it only supports AMD XP processors and is AGP so wont support the graphics card you have chosen either http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=KT6V-LSR&class=mb

As KingZeddy states, that motherboard is a socket A motherboard, so PCI-E cards and AM2+/AM3 chips are 100% incompatible.
