Will this fail an MOT?

Warning light on the dash saying one of the doors is still open when they are all shut.

It's something to do with the boot because if I open the boot and push the locking mechanism back with a screwdriver, replicating the boot being closed, then push the mechanism in a little farther, the light goes out.

But it doesn't stay out, as soon as I disengage the lock by pressing the boot release button and actually shut the boot, the light comes back on again.

I think it has something to do with the boot lock mechanism being worn so it thinks the boot is open?

Please can someone who knows about MOT requirements advise on whether this is likely to fail?

Wouldn't have thought so - its just an information display but im sure someone can confirm. Should be dead easy to sort BTW, probably justthe switch/contact in the boot plate that's gone. You could temporarily Hodge it so the contact is always pressed down enough too....but given its a simple fix I don't really see the point

Edit - from what I can see it looks like you could be failed under the new rules r.e warning lights. Its only supposed to be for safety related systems but I'd guess door open warning systems would fall under this bracket.

Why don't you call the place and ask them?

My friend's car just failed for having an airbag warning light stuck on. Looking through the Haynes manual it goes on about having to drill out the lock to remove it?? I would have thought there would be an easier way to get at the contacts which make up the switch.

That sounds a bizarre way to get at it, usually you can get at both components pretty easily. Just tape it over for now or if it needs to be pressed down further stuff something in there then duct tape over

Radical suggestion but why not fix the problem rather than hide it by disabling the warning light?

Sounds like an easy fix even if you are unfortunate enough to have it fail

I would probably try chucking a bit of wd40 on it to start with

If he needs to drill the lock to.get at it (which I really doubt) and this mot is in the next few days then its not worth fixing it properly right at this minute when it will be simple to temporarily sort the problem out.

I really can't see that being needed though - what's the car?

Nobody is talking about disabling the warning light except you TWfox.

I want to get at the contacts for the boot open switch to see if they can be fixed (hopefully just corrosion) but the Haynes manual just talks about removing the entire lock assembly.

Maybe adjusting the lock striker to compensate for the wear with an aim to push the lock mechanism farther back when the boot is shut?

It's an 03 plate 1.8 Focus.

I was talking about your friends car with the airbag light.

I think bainbridge swapped topics mid post - the haynes manual and drilling part was in reference to the boot switch, not to disable an airbag light

If you are that worried, take the bulb out of the dash for the MOT and then fix it later when you have time

I heard a rumour any warning light will now fail MOT following the recent changes, thats why I posted here wondering if anyone actually knew, because if it doesnt matter I wont bother fixing it, all the doors and boot lock securely.
