Hi guys, bit of a comp noob here, am restricted to only using wireless in my current flat.Have tried 2 usb dongle adapters so far, both have been insufficient; (d/l speeds of 2-90kb a sec, when laptop dl's @ 1-2mb)

so have been looking at this:

BUT I'm not sure if the PCI express slot is too close to the gpu? I dunno it seems like like it could block airflow etc, here is a pic;

I'd appreciate any help or advice, what would you do? and can you recommend any good wireless network cards, will my PSU be good enough, etc. really lost and stumped.

It'll fit, yeah. Better to put it in the blue slot rather than the white one though.

It'll reduce airflow to the gpu, but probably negligibly so. This is particularly true if you put it in the blue slot.

USB dongles normally perform about as well as internal cards, is the desktop simply too far from the access point?

edit: Any chance of cables at all? I ran a standard ethernet cable under the carpet perhaps six months ago, no problems yet.

thanks for the reply, will the pci express one fit in the blue one?

and it's strange, but my laptop in the exact same place is fine connected to the wireless. With the dongle, this one: *Don't link to competitors!* It only has 2 bars, as opposed to full bars, so I assumed that the dongle isn't as good?.. do you think the pci version will be the same? I don't get why my laptop has no problem though :(

wires are not poss i'm afraid. wish i understood this wireless lark more but am totally lost

If you’re plugging the dongles in directly, it’s worth a try with an extension cable so you can play with the positioning.

For a desktop with dodgy wireless Homeplug adapters are an obvious solution.

Why not get a PCI network card, or homeplugs as bremen said.

As a side note, i think you could plug the PCI-E card into the other gpu slot, but it may make your graphics card run at x8 speed.
