Will this GPU work in this MOBO?

Hey guys, I'm just wondering whether the HIS R9 290X will work in the AsRock N68c-GS FX or not. Extra info being that I'm also going to be running the FX 6300 and it will all be powered by a 600w PSU by Corsair. Any help is greatly appreciated!

It'll work, but it's going to be one unbalanced system.

It's a crap motherboard and it'll probably throttle your FX6300 (And since your GPU has got room to stretch its legs, your CPU's always going to be going as fast as it can)

Your GPU will be somewhat wasted in the system ; For some elaboration, someone running a better system with an R290 will probably be posting much better and more stable results.

Tact is something I lack.

Well you need to switch your board whatever you do.
Depends what you want to do really.

I'd personally jump to socket 1150 with an i5 4670K and get a R290.

But you could as equally get another AM3+ board and cooler and get an FX8320 overclock and get an R290 (You'll probably post better frames with an i5, but it's going to jack up the price another 60 quid)

Well the motherboard is outside it's return date and I'm on a budget so the i5 is out of the question really. So should I change my GPU to a HD 7870 or something? (That's the one component I haven't got/ordered yet)

DAMN IT TO HELL! So sorry I put the wrong GPU! I mean the HIS R9 270x not the 290x! Damn, what about the FX 6300, N68C-GS FX with a HIS R9 270x?

If you ever get in a situation where your CPU's going quite heavy, it's going to throttle as the motherboard simply can't handle it.

But with an R270X (I'd just get a 7870 for cheaper) you'd have to give it a whack.

Only think you could potentially damage is the motherboard VRM's (Which is why it throttles, to protect them)

If it throttles, your frame rates will plummet.

The board looks nasty! It does list the 6300 as supported so with decent case airflow it should run at stock, but I don't expect you'll be able to overclock it at all. And to get the most from the 270x you'll want to run it at about 4GHz or more.

It also says it supports the 8 cores

And all those boards that list FX83's as supposed and throttle at stock?

There aren't many that specifically list the 8320/50 and will throttle at stock, it's more likely the 8350 than the 8320 if so. The 6300 draws a lot less power though and is much less likely to.

The ones with a lower TDP than the 8320 only, though I wouldn't run an 8 core CPU on this board anyway.

There's still some boards that do throttle, and that board says it supports the 8 cores... I wouldn't run an 8 core in it.

I'm probably being over zealous with the throttling, as I hear horror stories, but that board looks like gash.
